Christian Calling at Age 50+
Introduction

We are God's handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. (Ephesians 2:10)

If you feel stalled or stopped in your Christian calling at age 50+, you're not alone! In fact, you're normal! But biblical evidence and modern research indicate that you're headed for your best calling ever!

That's because, at age 50+, Christians eventually reach what Tony Stoltzfus calls the Fulfillment Stage of their lifelong Calling Journey, as shown in the diagram below from his book, The Calling Journey. This stage is the best fit for who they are and what they do best. The Bible and modern research confirm that the Fulfillment Stage is a real, yet largely unrecognized, stage of life.

Furthermore, finding and fulfilling a Christian calling at age 50+ is radically different from doing so before age 50. For example, traditional assessments for spiritual gifts, strengths, and personality type don’t work as well and can even be misleading. Different tools and perspectives are required.

Growing in Christ at age 50+ is also radically different from doing that before age 50. People age 50+ long for a next-level, more personal relationship with God, where they hear God more clearly and confidently than ever, in an easy, conversational way, like Moses did “friend to friend.” Yet many Christians are unsure what that looks like or how to develop it, and few resources exist to help people age 50+ grow in Christ in new ways.

In 2021, God updated my calling to help Christians age 50+ do two things: (1) find and fulfill their new calling in their Fulfillment Stage and (2) grow a next-level relationship with God unlike any they’ve ever had before. I help people do these things through an online course, blogs, and eventually books.

If you’re age 50+ and haven’t yet discovered your Fulfillment Calling, finding and fulfilling your new calling and growing a next-level relationship with God apply to you!

Even if you’re already doing your Fulfillment Calling at age 50+, both of these activities still apply, because God frequently calls senior adults to do more than one calling role, and it can be difficult to discern which roles to pursue, when, and to what extent.
