Here’s a simple thing you can do to gain more clarity about your divine calling.
Are you ready?!
You probably think I’m going to give you some tips for how to pray! Not so! Not so!
Because if you’re like most people who want to live their divine calling, you’ve already prayed! And you’ve read books, and you’ve listened to sermons.
But you’re still saying, “I need more clarity!”
Well, guess what, you’re in good company!
So here’s an important but simple concept about living your divine calling:
Clarity comes from TAKING ACTION!
In the Bible, God told Abram to leave his ancestral home to “go to a land that I will show you.” What if Abram had said, “Well, God, I don’t have clarity about where to go or how to get there or what to do when I get there, so I’ll just wait until you give me more clarity about that!”
God revealed more to Abram only as Abram took action!
Long before God called me into what I’m doing now, He prompted me to get help for my habitual lying, save some money, get leadership training, and learn about the Bible. I didn’t know why. But I now see that He was preparing me for an exciting future that is still unfolding!
Clarity comes from TAKING ACTION!
It’s easier to steer a moving car!
What action might God want you to take toward your divine calling?
Here are some examples:
- What do you keep thinking you need to do?
- What habitual sins do you need to overcome?
- What do you need to research?
Whatever action comes prayerfully to mind … even if you’re not sure why … do it! It’s hard for God to steer a parked car!
“But what if I’m wrong?” you ask.
“What if I make a mistake? Wouldn’t it be better to wait until I have more clarity?”
John Kavanaugh, a famous ethicist, once traveled thousands of miles to meet Mother Teresa. Eventually he asked her to pray for him.
So Mother Teresa said, “Certainly. What do you want me to pray for?”
Kavanaugh said, “Clarity. Pray that I have clarity.”
But Mother Teresa responded, “No. I will not do that.”
Kavanaugh was shocked.
And then Mother Teresa said, “Clarity is the last thing you are clinging to and must let go of.”
“But you always seem to have clarity,” Kavanaugh pleaded. “Yours is the kind of clarity I am always looking for.”
And then Mother Teresa laughed and said, “I have never had clarity. What I have always had is trust. So I will pray that you trust God.”
Rarely will you be 100% sure about what God wants you to do. Rarely will God show you more than one step at a time.
But the important thing is not to get paralyzed with fear of messing up!
After all, courage is not being fearless. Courage is being afraid but ACTING anyway!
TAKE ACTION! And then trust God for the rest of the journey, ONE STEP AT A TIME

You always have the perfect note when it is most needed. Thanks
I do wish we could be closer–I shall have to write more often.

I wish we lived closer too, Fran. It seems we have a lot in common, even more so than most cousins do! Thanks so much for your encouragement. It means a lot to me!
