When I started my life-coaching ministry, I needed to take classes, get certified, get an overall vision, set up a website, design systems for signing up clients, register with the state and IRS, and do a million other things that I didn’t know how to do. And all of that was on top of everything I was already doing.

Christian blogger Michael Hyatt gives simple but profound advice about what to do when you don’t know what to do – how to get going again when you feel stuck and momentum screeches to zero.

Here are three steps from Michael Hyatt for getting moving forward again:

1.  Don’t focus on the big picture.

When you think about too many things at once, your brain will short-circuit and you’ll drift into worst-case scenarios. The big picture is important! It’s why you do what you do! But when you’re overwhelmed, focusing on the big picture will get you stuck!

2.  Focus on the next right action.

When there are so many possible next steps, choose one that you know to be right, and do it. Action is the only way to re-start momentum. Michael Hyatt says that continuing to sit and think about all of the possibilities can be like an astronaut depleting the air supply. Don’t worry yet about all of the actions you’re unsure about. Just focus on the next right action, and that will lead to the next right action, etc.

“Feeling overwhelmed? Don’t overthink it. Just do the next right thing.” – Michael Hyatt

3.  Do something now.

After you identify the next right action, do it now. That will get the momentum going again.

Application:

What “next right thing” do you need to do to start moving again?
